Lititz Youth Soccer Club Update: Travel Tryouts
The Board is writing to provide an update regarding travel tryouts for the 2020-21 season. Earlier in the year, Lititz Youth Soccer Club (LYSC) joined an Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association (EPYSA) initiative to hold travel tryouts later in the spring. The initiative called for tryouts to take place no earlier than May 4. Obviously, the COVID-19 situation has disrupted this timetable. Given the uncertainty caused by COVID-19, LYSC elected to not schedule travel tryouts because doing so would likely, be fruitless and ultimately, add greater confusion to an already difficult situation,
However, as time has continued to march on, we wanted to give you an update. LYSC is committed to holding traditional, in-person tryouts across all age groups when doing so is authorized by EPYSA and Pennsylvania authorities. There is clearly uncertainty regarding when we will be able to hold tryouts. Governor Wolf has extended the stay-at-home order to May 8. This means that we cannot hold tryouts until the week of May 18, because we want to give the players a chance to train before the tryouts, considering the extended layoff.
Once we get authorization to engage in soccer activities, we will immediately set a tryout schedule and open registration. LYSC is also working on a “plan B” in the event that soccer related activities are not permitted on a timeline to allow for traditional tryouts sufficiently in advance of the need to form travel teams for the 2020-21 season. LYSC will provide additional details about this process as warranted by the circumstances.
LYSC thanks you for your patience and understanding as we try to navigate these challenging times.
