Dear LYSC Community,
The LYSC Board is writing to provide you with an update regarding the spring 2020 soccer
season. The Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association (EPYSA), LYSC’s sanctioning
organization, has issued a new directive regarding the start of the spring season. Consistent with
state and federal guidance, no soccer activities are permitted to commence prior to April 30, 2020. We will update you with additional information regarding EPYSA directives and any
changes to this timeline as we receive them.
In addition, we have received notification from the Lancaster Area Recreations Soccer (LARS)
league regarding the spring season. Unfortunately, the LARS leadership team has made the
difficult decision to cancel the spring 2020 season. This decision affects recreational teams in
the u10 and above age groups. The Board is exploring alternatives to LARS that may allow
these age groups to still have some form of a modified spring soccer season. Please look for
additional information on this issue in the coming weeks.
The LARS cancellation does not affect the u6 or u8 age groups, or LYSC travel teams. We
remain hopeful that these programs will still be able to participate in a spring season on a
modified schedule starting at some point after April 30.
The Board asks for your patience and understanding as we try to determine the best course of
action in these unprecedented circumstances. Like everyone, we are operating with imperfect
information regarding the full scope and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are trying to
delay making any final decisions regarding the spring season as long as possible in the hope that
some part of it may be salvaged.
We know that this is a difficult time given the uncertainty about how the COVID-19 pandemic
will affect our community, and we commit to providing you with timely information as we are
able. We are all in this together, and we wish your families good health in this challenging time.
Best regards,
LYSC Board
