The state association encourages everyone to wear their favorite soccer jersey on Friday, October 7 to raise awareness for cancer research. Additionally, donations can be made online or via text message.
Plymouth Meeting, Pa. (September 27)— Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer, in partnership with Red Card Cancer, is proud to announce the second annual Futbol Friday for October 7, 2016.
Futbol Friday is a day to celebrate soccer and raise awareness and donations for cancer research. Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer and its partners encourage everyone to wear their favorite soccer jersey on Futbol Friday, which coincides with the height of the fall season as well as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A $10 donation can be made to Red Card Cancer, a soccer-based cancer research charity, by texting “SOCCER” to 52000. Additionally, donations can be made at EPYSA.org/Events/Futbol_Friday. One-hundred percent of all proceeds will go to Red Card Cancer.
Last year’s inaugural event raised more than $2000 in donations. Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer hopes to exceed that total this year by getting local clubs and businesses involved.
“Cancer has affected all of us in some way and too many from our soccer community,” said Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Chief Executive Officer Chris Branscome. “This a way for the soccer community to give back.”
Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer will further promote the event through social media using #FutbolFriday. The association will post pictures with participants wearing their jerseys. Everyone who participates is encouraged, although it is not required, to make a minimum donation of $5.
Clubs, businesses and organizations interested in hosting a Futbol Friday event or partnering with Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer should contact Dillon Friday at dfriday@epysa.org or by phone at 610-238-9966.
